A phone conversation with Kurt Tedford the builder of the Intrepid Hydro today, provided a great deal more information. He indicates that the initial 10-20 boat batch of 20 hydros will be shipped before January 31, 2000. Firm orders will be taken starting January 15th. Reservations for the first batch will be taken during the time before January 10th. There are 6 boats of the 10-20 already spoken for, so if you are wanting to get your new Intrepid Hydro, better "get truckin"! Some items that Kurt told me today that you should know about are as follows: Price will be equivalent to the Roadrunner UL and the Eagle 95%, Sponson replacements will be available on a next day shipped basis if you damage yours, sponson prices will be much less than RR & Eagle, Sponson tubes will be aluminum instead of brittle Carbon, Boats will come with the following standard(motor mount, strut, rudder, stuffing box glued, cowl, tubes, radio lid, sump metal tank, turn fin). Center section is made of carbon/Kevlar construction and is lighter than RR UL, sponsons have internal ribs to increase strength to sponson tubes.
Projected order of boat size for production is 20 Hydro, 40 Hydro, Gas Hydro, F Hydro, E Hydro. It is projected that a new version will become available monthly after the initial 20 Hydro Batch. Availabilityy of boats should be good. Tooling is the main governing factor in producing the new sizes, and after initial tooling, production should keep up with demand. It is still undetermined if rcboat.com will be the distributor or the boat will be factory distributed, but either way, another option for the RC Boater is near!!!
